Overview
A backup power system that manages multiple power sources and energy storage to reduce unnecessary generator cycling during power disruptions. The system connects a primary power source, a secondary source (like a generator), and energy storage, with an electronic controller that switches between them based on stored energy levels. When primary power fails, the controller uses stored energy as a buffer rather than immediately activating the generator. Two energy thresholds guide this behavior: a lower threshold representing the startup time needed for the secondary source to reach operational output, and a higher threshold for sustained outages. This two-threshold approach prevents the backup generator from repeatedly cycling on and off during brief power fluctuations, reducing mechanical wear and extending equipment life, while ensuring power availability during extended outages.
