Backup power system and method

Overview
A backup power controller reduces equipment damage during intermittent power outages by automatically switching between utility power, generators, and battery storage based on two energy thresholds. When utility power flickers repeatedly—an increasingly common grid problem—conventional systems cycle backup generators on and off, exhausting stored battery charge between events without time to recharge. When genuine outage finally occurs, the depleted battery cannot bridge the generator's startup delay, causing damage. This system prevents this with two thresholds: a higher one that ignores minor power dips without starting the generator, conserving battery reserves; and a lower one ensuring enough stored energy remains to sustain the generator's startup time. This dual-threshold approach eliminates wasteful cycling while preserving emergency reserve power. The controller also integrates intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind, enabling stable power even as grids incorporate more variable energy sources.
