About Deepak Jain

Hi — I’m Deepak Jain. Since 1993 I’ve been building the quiet machinery of the internet: the data centers, fiber routes and cloud platforms that most people never see but use every single day.

Who I Am

I’m the founder and CEO of AiNET, a Maryland-based technology-infrastructure company. What began as a startup in 1993 has grown into a business that designs, builds and operates colocation data centers, metropolitan dark-fiber networks and large-scale cloud storage — infrastructure trusted by enterprises, service providers and public-sector organizations across the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore region and beyond.

What I Work On

My work centers on a simple belief: infrastructure is a promise. When you flip the switch, the lights must come on — I’ve cared enough about that promise to go patent a few ways of keeping it, with patents on power-backup systems granted or pending in the US, Europe, Japan, Israel, and a few other places. AiNET’s projects have included free public Wi-Fi infrastructure in Baltimore, dark-fiber deployment supporting the D.C. Metro system, and CyberNAP, a 300,000-square-foot data-center campus in Maryland. Along the way I’ve picked up a few more things too — Entrepreneur of the Year, a Daily Record Innovator of the Year nod, a SmartCEO award or two.

Why This Site

jain.com is my home on the web. It’s where I publish daily analysis of the data-center, cloud and connectivity industry — press-release journalism with the marketing stripped out: what was actually announced, what it means for the market, and the questions the announcements leave unanswered. If you run infrastructure, buy it, invest in it, or are simply curious how the internet physically works, you’ll feel at home here.
