Overview

A backup power system that intelligently selects among three power sources—utility mains, a standby generator, and stored energy (battery or flywheel)—to maintain uninterrupted power to a load. The system addresses the practical problem of intermittent power fluctuations in complex electrical grids: brief outages followed by immediate restoration can damage sensitive equipment and exhaust stored energy reserves before a generator finishes starting up. The system uses dual thresholds to manage the stored energy level: a lower threshold representing the time needed for the generator to reach full output, and a higher threshold designed to prevent unnecessary generator starts during minor power dips. This approach distinguishes between brief disturbances and serious outages, allowing the system to conserve energy and equipment by avoiding repeated generator cycling while still providing uninterrupted power during extended outages.
