Overview
A backup power system that intelligently controls when to switch between utility power, a backup generator, and stored energy (such as batteries). The problem it addresses is that when electrical grids experience intermittent power interruptions—caused by transformer failures, lightning strikes, or power fluctuations—traditional backup systems either drain stored energy without time to recharge between outages or waste fuel through excessive generator cycling. This system uses two energy-level thresholds to solve both problems. The lower threshold represents the minimum energy needed to sustain the load while the backup generator spins up to full power; the higher threshold acts as a buffer to prevent the generator from unnecessarily starting and stopping during minor power dips. This dual-threshold approach allows the system to distinguish between temporary glitches (which merely consume battery reserve) and genuine outages (requiring generator support), ensuring uninterrupted power supply while minimizing fuel waste.
