Overview

Geothermal cooling for modular data centers addresses the unreliability and operational complexity of shared chilled-water systems used in portable computer containers deployed at remote sites. Instead of relying on on-site chillers that create single points of failure, this system deploys multiple independent cooling loops buried vertically in the ground directly beneath the container's footprint. Coolant circulates through the container's heat-dissipation system and into these underground loops, where the earth absorbs the heat in a closed-loop circuit. The independent loops eliminate shared infrastructure dependencies and enable reliable operation without conventional chilling equipment. By running loops in parallel beneath the container and confining them to its footprint, the design maximizes thermal efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.
