Fred Thiel has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Marathon Digital (MARA) since April 2021, growing the bitcoin mining company's market capitalization from under $30 million to over $5 billion and expanding its global footprint across four continents. Prior to assuming the CEO role, he served as Chairman of Thiel Advisors, providing technology sector operating expertise and strategic advisory services to private equity, venture capital, and corporate boards. He also held CEO positions at publicly traded technology companies including Local Corporation and Lantronix, Inc.
Thiel brings over 35 years of technology sector experience, with particular expertise in digital assets, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and enterprise software. He has been active in the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), leading initiatives within the FinTech and Technology Networks. His prior public company directorships include Ruckus Wireless, Inc. and Violin Memory, Inc.
Thiel attended the Stockholm School of Economics and Harvard Business School. He also serves on the University of Louisiana's College of Engineering Dean's Advisory Council and is a member of MARA's Risk and Audit, Social Responsibility, and Technology and Strategy board committees.
