Ashu Swami has served as Chief Technology Officer of Marathon Digital since December 2021. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay and an MBA from Duke University. Prior to joining Marathon, Swami was chief principal officer at Core Scientific Inc. from February 2021 to September 2021, where he led the company's entry into DeFi and directed mining hardware and software optimization efforts.
Swami's career spans cryptocurrency infrastructure, financial markets, and blockchain advisory roles. From January 2019 to February 2021, he was chief technology officer of Apifiny Inc., a hybrid centralized and decentralized cryptocurrency exchange. He headed a special purpose vehicle at Quadeye Securities LLC from January 2016 to December 2018, where he pioneered and traded mining swaps, operated cloud mining data centers, and served as chief advisor to Fortune 50 companies including Intel on blockchain initiatives. He also founded LocalPad (2013–2015), a peer-to-peer marketplace and payments plugin.
Earlier in his career, Swami was a portfolio manager at Morgan Stanley Program Trading from 2007 to 2013, where he led the high-frequency market-making business and became a top-five market maker in U.S. ETFs. He began his career as a senior component designer and tech lead in Intel's Enterprise Platforms Group from 2002 to 2007. As of March 31, 2024, Swami held 168,177 beneficially owned shares of Marathon Digital common stock.
