Quote: “The Bitcoin mining firm clarified on September 17, 2026, that a transfer of 1,292 BTC, worth roughly $98.6 million at the time, was a loan repayment coming back to the company, not a fresh purchase of Bitcoin. The coins in question had previously been loaned out through FalconX”
How we checked this
Checked on September 25, 2026. The cited source supports part of this claim, but not all of it.
The article confirms the 1,292 BTC transfer, its roughly $98.6 million value, and that it was a loan repayment rather than a purchase. It says the coins were loaned out 'through' FalconX but does not explicitly say FalconX was the borrower that repaid them.
Confirmed in the source:
- MARA received a transfer of 1,292 BTC
- The 1,292 BTC transfer was a loan repayment, not a new purchase of Bitcoin
- The 1,292 BTC was worth roughly $98.6 million at the time
- The returned coins had previously been loaned out through FalconX
We could not confirm this from the cited source:
- FalconX itself was the party that repaid the 1,292 BTC (the source says only that the coins were loaned out 'through' FalconX)
That does not mean it is false — only that this source does not establish it, as of the date above. If we find a source that settles it, we will re-check and update this page.
