Anthropic To Acquire Computing Power From Hut 8

Artificial intelligence (A.I.) startup Anthropic is set acquire computing power from Hut 8's (NASDAQ: $HUT) Texas data centre facility. 

Anthropic has agreed to spend $35 billion U.S. buying computing capacity from privately held Lambda, an A.I. cloud company backed by chipmaker Nvidia (NASDAQ: $NVDA). 

Some of that capacity will be provided by Hut 8's Beacon Point data centre campus in Texas.

Nvidia holds the lease on the Hut 8 facility in Texas and Anthropic will buy computing power from that facility as it looks to drive it's A.I. ambitions forward.

Hut 8 has disclosed two 15-year leases at its Texas data centre campus covering 704 megawatts of power capacity. The leases offer $19.6 billion U.S. of contracted value to Hut 8.

The Texas data centre site is a sprawling 525-acre campus, with access to up to one gigawatt of power and an existing grid connection.

Hut 8 is one of several Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) miners that have pivoted to running A.I. data centres.  

The Texas data centre campus run by Hut 8 is expected to generate an average of $1.31 billion U.S. in annual operating income for the company once fully operational in 2028.

HUT stock has risen 187% over the past 12 months to trade at $78.64 U.S. per share.
