Riot Platforms may recover between 1,159 and 1,547 BTC that are currently tied to the US$ 200 million loan with Coinbase. According to the data disclosed by the company, bitcoin's recent rise to near US$ 78,000 reduced the ratio between the debt and the collateral value.

At the beginning of 2026, Riot had 3,977 BTC pledged in this transaction. Later, bitcoin's decline led the company to add another 1,825 BTC, bringing the total collateral to 5,802 in February. These coins continued to belong to Riot, but were kept in a segregated account under Coinbase's custody.

The April credit agreement provides three ranges for measuring when part of the extra collateral can be returned. If the debt-to-collateral ratio stays below the applicable threshold for two consecutive days, and there is no impediment, Riot may request in writing the release of part of the coins.

With 5,821 BTC in collateral and the loan kept at US$ 200 million, that ratio would be about 44.1% using the reference price of US$ 78,000. In that scenario, there would be room to release about 1,547 BTC in the standard range, or 1,159 BTC in the first de-leveraging range.

The public disclosure itself does not say which range Coinbase is using, nor does it record any current release request. It also does not detail how much of the 5,821 BTC corresponds to the initial collateral and how much was added later, which limits confirmation of the amount that could return to Riot.

The movement has already gone both ways over the year. In April, a refinancing released 1,544 BTC, leaving 4,258 BTC as collateral. On June 30, however, the balance had risen to 5,821 BTC, and the quarterly filing does not explain this increase.
