Why Is Citi Optimistic on CoreWeave (CRWV) Despite Higher AI Spending

Over the past year, the broader market continued to ask only one question: Amidst the AI boom, who is actually making money? First of all, the chipmakers benefited, and then the cloud providers. As of now, investors are increasingly focusing on the infrastructure layer supporting the AI buildout.

That's exactly where CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV) benefited. The market doesn't consider it as just another GPU cloud provider; rather, it is being viewed as a key layer of AI infrastructure. Also, the company's latest quarterly results reflect that increased scale might be working for it.

Q2 2026 Was Not Just About Revenue Growth

CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV)'s Q2 2026 results appeared resilient on the surface, with the company expanding active power capacity by ~500 megawatts, resulting in total active power of 1.5 gigawatts. The total contracted power saw an increase to 3.7 gigawatts. Furthermore, it upgraded its 2026 revenue guidance to $12.4 billion - $13.2 billion, and raised its adjusted operating income outlook to $960 million - $1.15 billion. The company also increased its expected year-end annualized revenue run rate to $18.5 billion - $19.5 billion.

While these numbers are strong, investors looked beyond these financials. The management tagged Q2 2026 as an inflection point, with operating leverage emerging as the business scales. Simply put, the company is not just adding capacity, but has started to show signs of sequential operating leverage as capacity scales.

This was a meaningful transition, as investors were concerned about whether its strong capital spending could ever garner healthy returns.

Why Citi Remains Optimistic

On August 12, Citi analyst Tyler Radke maintained a "Buy" rating on the company's stock, with a price objective of $142. Following CoreWeave's Q2 results, Citi analyst Tyler Radke maintained a Buy rating, and the firm subsequently raised its price target to $159 from $142. The analyst didn't ignore the company's massive capex bill. CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV) anticipates incurring capital expenditures of $35-$39 billion in FY 2026, which could have concerned investors about financing risk and future dilution.

However, the analyst opined that spending remains backed by healthy pricing power, growing software and token-based revenue, better-than-anticipated margins, as well as an increase in customer diversification.

The outlook changed across several metrics: CoreWeave raised revenue and adjusted operating-income guidance while also increasing its capital-spending forecast.
